Melding the Palates

The Verde Valley Wine Festival is about more than simply presenting the awe inspiring breadth of wines and spirits Arizona has to offer to the community; it's also about discovering delightful culinary pairings to complement them. Rest assured, at their best, Arizona wines can truly take your breath away by themselves, but here at the VVWF, we want every sip to have a culinary partner to dance with on their palate. To help with this, we'd like to welcome the following three participants to the list of delicious food presenters at this year's Verde Valley Wine Festival.

Sometimes nothing brings you that "welcome home" feeling more than a cozy cafe on a cool summer morning. The Mine Cafe wants to be your home away from home whether it's your first visit or your twelfth. They're proud to call themselves the best breakfast in Jerome, AZ and the first to open every morning at 7am. Toting fresh roasted coffee from Sedona, AZ, as well as an all day breakfast menu ranging from Applejack Flapjacks to your traditional country inspired Biscuits & Gravy. If you're fixing for something more savory, step it up a notch and come for lunch where you grab choices like the Brisket Bomber or B.Y.O.B. (Build Your Own Burrito) and a cold refreshing local beer. Recognizing the true potential that could come from bringing a passionate food truck service to the streets of Flagstaff, John Christ and Karl Shilhanek started Wil's Grill in 2014. After spending three months on a street corner in Flagstaff, they decided to share their highly sought after BBQ with the rest of Northern Arizona. Catering everything from music festivals to rodeos, these men brought local ingredients smoked up right and loved to serve it with a smile. While Karl has moved back home to bring his newly honed catering skills to a new audience of hungry people, John Christ continues on the tradition of being one of the greatest premiere catering services in all of Arizona. Starting off as only a hobby, Desert Indulgence opened for business in January 2014 in San Tan Valley, AZ with nothing more than the bare minimum to make single batch orders and a few hobby-grade chocolate molds. Since opening, they've expanded into multiple chocolate refineries and streamlined their crafting process, allowing them to finally meet the demand they've seen from not only their friends and family, but the entire community of chocolate lovers. Expanding their process also allowed them to develop a new variety of rich and creamy flavors from their original dark chocolates to their Latte Line of coffee infused bars and now their new "Caramel Milk" that adds the warm, comforting taste of roasted milk to their already addictive candies. While the business is still mostly a one man operation, family and friends still chip in, allowing Desert Indulgence to now ship their chocolates straight to your door.
